When people look at me, the first question they ask is, "Do you play basketball?" I guess I should be used to that since I am 6'2". I was tall my whole life, all the way from second grade through highschool I was the tallest girl in my class. Some people think I'm crazy when I tell them that in second grade, when we first started playing Tball, basketball, and soccer, that I already knew which sport I fell in love with. Sure, I was great at being goaliefor soccer, Tball(turning to softball) was good being 1st base, but basketball, that was my sport. Playing AAU Basketball (Club team) was a huge eye opener. Once we hit highschool, and we knew all of the fundamentals, the coaches started taking us to Exposure Tournaments. This is where Colleges would come to scout and recruit kids to play for them. My Sophomore year I was picked up by UNC and the University of Arkansas. Then my Junior year, came all the mid major division 1 colleges and some division 2. My dream was to always play Division 1.
The spring of my Junior year I dislocated my knee, and colleges started disappearing. No one wanted a player with knee problems. My AAU coach told me not to worry, that he knew of a few schools that would see my talent and how much I was willing to learn and that I can push past injuries.
Thats how Southern Connecticut State University came to play. My coach called one of the Assistant coaches here and she asked for game film. Once they had seen that, they asked for me to come practice with them. Once they saw me play, they asked me to come to there school. It was a no brainer for me. I love the coaching staff and the team.
This year we became a close family of 9...well, 12 if you count our coaches. It was the best decision I made, and I wouldnt change it for anthing. Oh, and if your wondering about my title..it's a team thing, we can't tell you. But I can tell you that right now were ranked 13th in our conference, but were about to be #1. DWB
